Materials Transportation Company (MTC) has created the Intell-A-Changer, a microprocessor-controlled system that can automatically charge, change and help maintain industrial batteries.

The company says the system comprises fully automated battery changing technology, along with battery charging, watering and cleaning stations.

The all-electric system comes equipped with PLC controls, which drive robotic movements to load and unload batteries without human intervention. Lift truck operators are the only people to interface with the unit during a change; no battery department personnel are required.

Laser technology is used for down-aisle position sensing. It also creates a protective barrier that helps ensure safety.

Proprietary system software maintains records of battery activity, including service and life cycles, maintenance intervals and vehicle usage.
