MIG Welding System accommodates multiple wire types

Welding System, MIG, MIG welding

Miller's new Invision(TM) MPa Plus System eliminates the need to purchase multiple wire feeders when MIG or pulsed MIG welding with aluminum, stainless steel and other wire types at a single welding station; also eliminates the downtime and hassle associated with wire and gas changes.

Highlights/Key Facts

o Power Source: Invision 352 MPa power source with 425-amp output and built-in pulsed MIG programs for aluminum, solid, stainless, nickel, copper, metal cored and flux cored wires.

o Benchtop Feeder: 74 MPa Plus dual feeder. Standard feeder on one side, Alumination(TM) technology on the other, which gives the ability to use the new XR-Aluma-Pro(TM) Plus push-pull gun for reliable aluminum feeding performance, and extended reach (up to 35 ft.).

o Profile Pulse(TM) pulsed MIG output, which creates a "stacked dime" weld bead appearance without torch manipulation.

o Long reach for large weldments: boats, emergency vehicles, trucks and trailers, railroad, recreational vehicles, lawn and garden equipment fabrication.

APPLETON, Wis., -Miller Electric Mfg. Co. today introduced its Invision(TM) MPa Plus System with Alumination(TM) technology. Using a benchtop feeder, the system provides both push-pull and standard push wire feeding capabilities and MIG/pulsed MIG welding outputs for heavy industrial applications that use aluminum and a second wire type or wire diameter at a single welding station. Compared to welding stations that use multiple wire feeders or systems, the Invision MPa Plus System reduces downtime associated with process changeover, simplifies operation, uses less space, uses less primary power and improves welding performance when using aluminum, stainless steel and other wires.

The system includes the Invision 352 MPa welder with built-in pulsed MIG programs, a D-74 MPa Plus dual wire feeder, the XR-Aluma-Pro(TM) Plus push-pull gun (15-, 25- and 35-ft. lengths) and a standard 400-amp Bernard® Q-Gun(TM). Alumination technology enables the push-pull gun to connect directly to the benchtop feeder, using tachometer feedback and improved software to provide consistent aluminum wire feeding and positive arc starts, even with 1/16-in. diameter aluminum wires. An S-74 MPa Plus single wire feeder with Alumination technology is also available.

Product Manager Quote

"The Invision MPa Plus System with Alumination combines superior MIG and pulsed MIG capabilities with the versatility of a dual feeder that has both push-pull and standard push wire feeding capabilities. Operators can always have two wire/shielding gas combinations ready for any job, eliminating the wasted time associated with consumable and process changeover."

-Jeff Herb, product manager, Miller Electric Mfg. Co.

Additional Information

Profile Pulse for Aluminum

The Invision MPa Plus System features Miller's Profile Pulse(TM) pulsed MIG technology, which creates a "stacked dime" or TIG-like bead profile without gun manipulation so that less-skilled operators can create quality weld beads with high aesthetic appeal.

To further simplify operator training, the system provides "one-knob" synergic control using the wire feed speed control on the gun. After system set-up (selecting wire type, diameter, gas and process choice), operators simply adjust wire feed speed to meet their various welding needs. For example, they increase wire feed speed to weld faster or increase penetration and decrease wire feed speed to weld slower, decrease penetration or weld out of position.

For more control, operators can use SharpArc® control to widen or narrow the arc cone, increase or decrease puddle fluidity and flatten the weld bead or increase its crown.

The system includes a parameter range and system lock function that can be used to ensure that all operators and all shifts weld according to specified procedures, helping ensure consistency and quality.
