Oshkosh Wins $80-Million U.S. Army Contract

Oshkosh Defense indicates it has a contract from the U.S. Army to deliver 800 protection kits for the MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV). The vehicles will be produced and delivered by this summer, and Oshkosh indicated the order may be worth $80 million at full value.

Oshkosh Defense is an operating division of Oshkosh Corp. that designs and manufactures tactical military trucks and armored vehicles. The kits will be supplied to the Army’s TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC), the Michigan-based command center that oversees material readiness for the U.S. armed forces.

The kits deliver enhanced protection capabilities for the M-ATV, which is produced with a factory-installed armor package and can accept additional bolt-on armor in the field.

“These protection kits are part of our ongoing work with the military to deliver exceptional M-ATV survivability against evolving threats on the modern battlefield,” stated Oshkosh president and CEO Charlie Szews. “The rapid production and delivery of these kits is the result of a close collaboration with our customer and our shared commitment to the Warfighters. Oshkosh is dedicated to supporting those who serve with world-class protection and mobility solutions.”

The M-ATV is produced with factory-installed armor and also can accept add-on armor and protection kits. The Oshkosh TAK-4 independent suspension system allows the M-ATV to incorporate add-on protection kits while maintaining its full payload capacity of 4,000 lb and a 70-percent off-road profile capability.

Oshkosh produces the M-ATV base, too, as well as variant models like the tactical ambulance and Special Forces Vehicle (SFV) variants. To date, it has taken contracts for nearly 8,400 M-ATVs, in addition to orders for spare parts kits, upgrade kits, and aftermarket support.
