Aberlink Innovative Metrology, the UK owned co-ordinate measuring machine (CMM) manufacturer, has recently delivered its biggest ever CMM. Boasting an XYZ volume of 1,000 by 3,000 by 800 mm, the large capacity Zenith Too CMM was ordered by a large multi-national US steel company.
The large capacity Zenith Too range was launched less than 12 months ago. With 10 variants offering axes ranging from 600 to 3,000 mm, Aberlink claim the Zenith Too offers the industry's best performance to cost ratio for this class of machine.
Controlled with Aberlink 3D software, the all aluminium bridge construction and advanced drive system of the Zenith Too ensures that despite its generous measuring envelopes, extremely low inertia guarantees repeatable accuracy, high-speed and low cycle times.
The purchaser of Aberlink's largest ever CMM is O'Neal Steel, the largest family-owned metals service centre in the United States, with some 70 locations.
The company carries large inventories of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals and is able to provide complex welded sub-assemblies and intricately processed parts. The large size and demanding dimensional specifications of many of the company's fabricated and machined parts instigated a search for a suitable co-ordinate measuring machine in early in 2010.
Having examined many alternative CMMs, the Zenith Too was chosen and delivered to O'Neal Steel in Indianapolis, Indiana.
